What's the Point of Jackass: The Movie?
Friday night, Eric, Lisa, and I went to see Jackass: The Movie (because Eric claimed I was too high-brow to see such a movie). Everyone to whom I've mentioned this since has given me the patronizing yet disappointed look that you would give a six-year-old who announced that they just went potty on their own for the first time. But the movie is outrageously funny, and the participants are remarkably charismatic without any false bravado or machismo. They make no attempt to hide their fear or their pain. They are far closer in spirit to vaudevillians than athletes or circus geeks. They are weirdly charming.

What Are You Getting Your Dog For Kwanzaa?
I haven't even finalized my Thanksgiving plans yet, and I'm already sick of Christmas advertising. Thus far, the most annoying advertisement (which I've seen three times today) is for PETsMART Holiday Village, where you can buy Christmas toys for dogs or cats. What most offends me about this is not the crass commercialism or the idiotic anthropomorphization of pets, but the fact that they felt compelled to call it Holiday Village rather than Christmas Village, even though every single item is Christmas-themed. Did they think that there would be a Jew somewhere that would get upset because their holiday wasn't being desecrated as well?
