What Can You Do With an iBook?
After being urged by my fellow geeks not to get a new G5 just yet, I decided to see just how much Camino development I could do on my iBook. I cleared the required two gigabytes of hard drive space (I removed the Classic environment, all Classic applications, and some games), connected to the Mozilla CVS, and built Camino. I had to leave the build running overnight, but this morning, I have the latest version of Camino running (though a bit slowly because it's a debug build).
The source comes with a Project Builder project included, so diving into the Camino portion of the code is pretty simple. I wish I could do my professional development in such a coherently integrated development environment. So it appears that I don't need a G5 to get involved in Camino development, but a little while spent dealing with the slow building and testing on a G3 laptop may make me feel differently before too long.
